The Idea Miners: The Twisted Tree Dig by P. W. Cross

— a fun children’s action fantasy read
that both young and old will enjoy

A fun read!

The Idea Miners: The Twisted Tree Dig is the second book in the trilogy. I began reading the book and decided that I wanted to read the first book before I read the second. It wasn't really necessary to read the first book, but it was helpful and gave me a little more insight.

The Twisted Tree Dig was fun to read. A young man from the land of harvesters (our world) travels again to the land of lights - where ideas are mined and later released into our world. He is there to help recover a young dwarf friend. He and his best friend from his world go on an adventure to rescue the young dwarf. They encounter different sorts of troubles, not the least the danger of trolls. Trolls are all over the land of lights and not only are they a danger because they want to eat their prey, but they also stink so much it is hard to breathe when they are around.

They also have to deal with miners - the ones who "mine" the gushers that hold the ideas. These gushers, whether actually discovered or just are close by, influence the miners in strange ways. The gushers need to be removed from the mines so that they can later be released into the land of harvesters to influence the cultural development (like the discovery of flight, or of frisbees, or printing presses, etc)
The story keeps moving and keeps the reader's interest with the problems that need to be solved. After reading the first book, I found myself looking for clues in this book. I think many will find it a good read and I look forward to the last book in the trilogy.

One suggestion I would have for the author relates to the map at the beginning of the book. I really like it when books have maps, but I would have liked this map to be more complete. There were places I would like to have seen on the map - like the Dwarf Highway.
